Prepping Without the Panic
A two-part, queer leftist guide to getting your house together without spiraling into a real life doom scroll.
Hosted by Spencer (they/them), who grew up in an alt-right, Y2K-obsessed prepper household.
Overview
With the world worlding, it’s time to have some basic supports in place in case supply chains are interrupted.
This is a grounded, community-based approach to making sure you can handle a power outage, a rough week, or life just being… inconvenient.
No bunkers. No paranoia. No buying 200 pounds of pinto beans.
Why This Exists
If shit hits the fan, there's no way that we're going to let the right-wing Trumpers be more prepared to care for their families and their neighbors than us - Oddball queer people. We do this not only for ourselves but for our families, neighbors, and loved ones
What We’re Going To Do
We’re going to take a sane approach using frameworks from the Red Cross and FEMA & do this in community to keep our Cortisol levels in check.
Meeting 1: Build The List
We’ll meet, hang, and walk through a simple preparedness framework together.
Hour 1
Review a streamlined version of the Red Cross 3-day preparedness kit as a group.
Break off into small groups
Figure out what you already have (probably more than you think)
Build a personalized, realistic shopping + action list
Come back as a group & share your action plan.
Leave with a clear checklist plan instead of vague anxiety
Hour 2
Potluck and low-stakes sweatpants social hour. Community is critical to survival, so we’ll spend our second hour building this valuable resource.
Bring: Potluck snacks
Take: We’ll have print off paper copies of the 3 day prep list which you will customize & take with you.
Two-Week Interlude
You go out into the world and… acquire your items.
We’re aiming for 80% completion.
Meeting 2: Close the Loop
We reconvene, compare notes, and reality-check the process.
Hour 1
Share what worked / what didn’t
Fill in any gaps
Potentially swap or exchange resources with others
Get optional ideas for leveling up—if you want to
Certificate of Household Preparedness by Queer Garden Network™
You’ll receive your official, extremely legitimate, fridge-worthy:
*Certificate dependent on you completing 80% of your checklist from week one
Hour 2
It’s Potluck & hangout time again!
Bring: Potluck snacks & your checklist from Meeting 1
Take: Certificate of Household Preparedness
Next Steps
The team at Queer Garden Network is actively having conversations about how we build the new world we want to live in. Decentralized internet networks, ride sharing services, and a community credit or time bank service will all be part of those discussions. We also expect this line of preparedness development to continue.
