Queer Barn Relocation

The Detroit Queer Garden Network has been gifted a greenhouse from the queers of Camp Cowell in Howell, Michigan. Originally built by Puelo a Camp resident, this structure is now making its way to the MISC•aLAIR•é•Omm… in Detroit.

At the MISC•aLAIR•é•Omm out goal is to create a shared greenhouse space where queer gardeners can start plants, grow native species for guerrilla gardening, and steward a small library of shared tools.

To move it, we’re going old-school: disassemble, haul, and rebuild barn-raising style.

Phase 1: Assessment + Light Disassembly

April 4 | 11:30 AM – ~2:30 PM (flexible end)

  • Assess structure and plan approach

  • Label and organize parts for rebuild

  • Begin disassembly (roof panels, windows, etc.)

  • Create a rough reconstruction “manual”

  • Food provided: vegan stew, sourdough, snacks

Phase 2: Disassembly + Move Day

April 11 | 10:00 AM – ~3:00 PM (drop-in welcome)

  • Finish full disassembly at Camp Cowell

  • Keep larger sections intact where possible

  • Load materials into a box truck (1:00pm target time)

  • Caravan ~35 minutes to Detroit

  • Unload and stage at the MISC•aLAIR•é•Omm…
