Winter Greens: Growing Food Indoors in Detroit
While the land outside is frozen and resting, our bodies still need real food—fresh, living, nutrient-dense greens. This gathering is a conversation and a hands-on mini-adventure focused on how we can keep food growing indoors during Detroit’s winter months.
This event is co-hosted by Spencer and Missa, and blends practical doing with relaxed conversation.
What We’ll Be Doing
Building a small indoor garden togetherWe’ll convert the area along the basement stairs into a simple “trail-style” indoor garden—hanging grow lights, filling planters, and planting perennial Swiss chard for year-round greens.
Plant-your-own starter potsMissa will bring pots, soil, and seeds so you can plant something to take home and experiment with.
Roundtable conversation + brainstormingAs we work, we’ll share ideas, tips, and creative ways to grow food in apartments and houses—what’s worked, what hasn’t, and what we want to try next.
Food & Vibe
Spencer will provide a pot of vegan stew and tea (this is during the dinner hour).
Bringing a dish to pass is welcome but absolutely not required.
The vibe is “get a little done, talk a lot, learn together.” Expect dirt under your nails, laughter, and low-pressure collaboration.
Who This Is For
